4 mei Dodenherdenking
Op de foto Settela Steinbach, een Sinti-meisje op weg naar Auschwitz.
De opname werd gemaakt op 19 mei 1944. Settela werd in de zomer van 1944 vermoord.
Deze foto staat symbool voor de massavernietiging van de Joden in de Tweede Wereldoorlog.Pas in 1994 werd ontdekt dat het hier om een Sinti-meisje gaat.
4th May: Remembreance of the Dead
On the picture Settela Steinbach, a Sinti-girl in a train to Auschwitz,
where she was killed in the summer of 1944.
This picture symbolises the mass destruction of the Jews in World War II.
It wasn't until 1994 that it was discovered that Settela wasn't Jewish, but a Sinti-girl. ("Gypsy")
We will never forget, and we will always honour our dead.
